Yesterday I received some amazing news. I have been accepted as an Ambassador for the SA Cancer Council. I put in the application last week, and they called and checked my references the same day, then I heard nothing. Yesterday the confirmation came through, although I am still waiting for the details in the mail. Next Tuesday I have my Orientation session at the Cancer Council offices where they will go through all the finer details with me.
I am so excited to be given this opportunity. I am really looking forward to getting out there and being a voice for the Cancer Council and raising as much awareness for the tireless work they do as possible.
As an Ambassador and advocate I need to live my life in a way that is fitting. Which means I need to get my weight under control. This is my choice, not something they are forcing or pushing. But if I am going to be out there spreading the prevention message then I need to show I can practice what I preach.
I am also planning a big fundraiser of my own, but until that is nailed down I will not be announcing what that is. Let’s just say it will be exciting.

I Got A Trophy
The Leukaemia Foundation sent one of their lovely volunteers around to my office this week to give me a little something as a thank you for my fundraising efforts for the Worlds Greatest Shave. They had a Thank You party on Friday night for their Top 20 Fundraisers and I was not able to go (as I was broken down on my way to the Retreat ;) ).
What a lovely surprise. I certainly didn't expect anything, which is what made it extra special.

Camp Quality
Last night was our first planning meeting for our 2012 Senior Camp. This is going to be a spectacularly awesome camp! I am so thrilled to be able to be part of the planning process.
For those of you who don't know about Camp Quality, it is a not-for-profit organisation whose goal is to create fun times and amazing memories for kids living with or in remission from cancer. We offer support and "Fun Therapy" to the whole family. Click on the image above if you want more info.
I have been involved as a volunteer since 1998. I was a companion in Southern Qld for 5 years before coming back to SA and have been both a companion and part of the leadership teams since being here. I took a couple of years break a few years back, which turned out to be exactly what I needed to recharge my batteries.
Being a volunteer with Camp Quality is without a doubt one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. Meeting and getting to know these absolutely amazing and inspiring children is an experience I can not even begin to explain. My life is definitely richer for being involved with this organisation.

Weekend Recap
The weekend started Friday night with Ross's works Xmas dinner. We went to Goodlife Organic Pizza at Glenelg. I love that restaurant. The pizzas are great. I got to meet all of Ross's workmates and their partners, and we had a really fun night. We walked home which was really nice, although the Achilles was a bit tender when I got home.
Saturday morning was spent at Harbourtown. Emma and I were volunteering at the Camp Quality gift wrapping stand.
The morning started slowly, surprisingly being only a week out from Xmas, Harbourtown was surprisingly quiet. But we did get some customers as well as some very generous people who were happy to donate without getting any gifts wrapped.
From there I made my way to my Mum's to pick out the quilts for my Worlds Greatest Shave Raffle and also to auction on Ebay.
This is the raffle quilt, valued at approximately $500, made by my Mum! It is a bit bigger than a single bed quilt, but not quite as big as a double. The applique was done by hand. I really hope that whoever wins it loves it.
This one I will be auctioning on ebay in the New Year. It is valued at around $300. It is a large lap quilt. I really hope I get a buyer! :)
This morning I was up early with a whole day stretched out in front of of me. I love days like this where I have no plans and no responsibilities. It started out on the couch with a good book. After a couple of hours I was itchng to get out, so I grabbed the camera and hopped on the tram to Glenelg to take some snaps. I spent about an hour or so wandering around taking photos. My goal for the next year is to expand my photographic horizons and start taking photos of things I wouldn't normally. So I started just shooting whatever I walked past. I ended up taking over 100 photos (love digital) and a few of them turned out okay.

When I got home I pulled out the sewing machine and got to work on my Mug Rugs. They are nearly finished. Just some hand stitching to do to stitch down the binding and they will be finished! I am very excited. It's been ages since I have finished something I have sewn.
Now I am watching Sex & The City (season 3), blogging, and admiring my new red and green Xmas nails. :)
A great weekend.

Free The Bears at the Royal Show
Last night I did my first volunteer shift with Free the Bears at the Royal Adelaide Show.
Unfortunately numbers are way down at the years show, probably due to the weather, so it was a quiet night. A few very generous people made it worth our while though. We chatted about the program, took donations, sold merchandise, and had a fun night. It is a shame it was pretty quiet though. Hopefully numbers pick up for them over the rest of the week.
I got in to the Show about an hour before my shift so had the chance to wander a bit. I saw the photography exhibition, and the quilting exhibition. Both amazing. I also finally got myself a hat for hiking. It is akubra style (although not the brand) and is water proof which is exactly what I need in case it rains. They had pink ones there, but unfortunately only in XS and L, and I wear a medium. So I got one that is a pale khaki with a brown & pink scarf around it. It is very cool.

Body, Mind & Psychic Expo
Yesterday I spent the day at the Body, Mind & Psychic Expo helping out at the Animal Dreaming Stand. We had such an amazing day! I don't think it was as busy as last year, but maybe that is because I was behind the stand rather than walking around out front.
I admit, it was a long day. We started at 10 and it went till 7, although I left at around 6.30 as there were really very few people left. I am an office worker by day so spend most of my day sitting on my butt. 9 hours on my feet was HARD! LOL. The weird thing is, it didn't feel like 9 hours.
We had such an amazing day. The people that we met were so amazing. Everyone was happy and positive, and there was such an amazing energy around our stand. Other stall holders mentioned that the energy around us was incredible. There were 3 of us working there. I have met Jeanette (who was running it) a couple of times but had never met Ilona before. But the 3 of us worked together so well!
I really put myself out there. I was standing out the front and giving out affirmations which was drawing people in to us so that we could show what we had and do some one card readings with the amazing Animal Dreaming Oracle Cards and the Creature Teacher cards.
It was scary being out the front and being 'visible', but it was fun and it was empowering. And something I need to learn to do.
I did get the chance to go for a wander around the Fair. My Mum and Ross came down and I had a chance to have a squizz at everything. I was doing really well at not spending any money until the very end... I found this gorgeous little meditation stool from Black Dragon Seats.

It is really comfy. I often find when I am sitting cross legged on the ground that my legs cramp up quite quickly and my lower back aches. I sit on a cushion, but it isn't really any support. This little stool has 3 adjustable heights, and is surprisingly amazingly comfortable. I sat down on it after I had been working on the stand for around 7 hours. I swear, I wanted to stay there for the rest of the day. Because we were working there the guy gave us a 10% discount which was lovely of him. It was still more than I wanted to spend, but considering I didn't buy hardly anything else, it was still a way cheaper day than last year!
I also got to meet the team from the Free the Bears Fund. I had a chat to the Co-ordinator and have the details for the next volunteer meeting that I have already booked into the diary. I am really looking forward to starting to work with them.
I think the main thing for me that I got from the day though, is that now I know without a doubt I want to be in the spiritual healing world. I have a lot to learn. This is a process and a journey and I accept that. But I felt so energised and content there. That is where I want to be. I am doing well with my Reiki, and I am studying the Tarot. I have so many other things I want to learn. And I will. I just have to learn patience (not one of my strong suits) practice what I already know, get myself out there, and learn. It will come.

Relay for Life 2010
For the last 5 year I have captained a team in the SA Cancer Council’s annual Relay for Life. It is often quite a lot of work to get the team organised, get all the fundraising done and money banked, get costumes, team banners, theme related stuff organised, do a walking chart for the event itself, make sure everyone has everything…
After last years event I said – no more. I needed a break. Then the events of this year began to unfold and there was absolutely no way I could have even imagined captaining another team. A friend of mine was going to pick up the reigns and take over, but his year has been chaotic as mine, so ended up not having the time to do anything either.
For the last week or so I have been thinking a lot about it. I love Relay. Despite the work in the lead up, the event itself is absolutely awesome. I called S and asked if he was still going to captain a team. No, but he would help if I did.
We have been the Pink Angels for the last 4 years, but the costumes are in storage and are in need of repair. So a change of name and theme was needed.
Chaos Inc was born.
The event is the last weekend in March and I am hoping to be able to run a few laps. Last year, just walking, I walked 26.4kms. This year I am aiming for 30kms over the 19 hours. The Cancer Council has now set up online registrations and fundraising as well, which makes the whole process so much easier.
Our team goal is to raise $1000. Even though I don’t actually have a full team yet… I am sure I will get enough people though. If anyone reading this would like to sponsor Chaos Inc, please go to our fundraising page here.
Now that the team is registered I am excited and can’t wait.
