This morning started much the same as yesterday. Woke up about 7.30 and read for a while. By about 8.30 I was done reading so I got up, fed the menagerie, then got out the computer to find something to bake.
It had to be something I had the ingredients for.
Time to bake my famous Giant Honey Oat Cookies. With a twist today. This time I added a cup of almond slivers, and can I just say - YUMMO!!!!! Made a massive difference. I will definitely be doing that again.
While they were baking I sat at the computer for a while. Next Wednesday is our monthly Paranormal Group Meetup. Since we are both on leave we decided to stay up in the Adelaide Hills for the night. So we have booked a room at the Stables Inn in Hahndorf. It looks really nice.
The other thing I did was register the both of us for the upcoming Rogaine event in 2 weeks time. It is a 6 hour night event, but our goal is to just do maybe 3 hours then camp the night. I figure it will be a good introduction to the sport and a way to see if we enjoy it. In honour of the registration Ross and I headed out to get...
My very own compass! Plus an introductory book on map reading. Ross has a compass and he knows how to read maps and everything, but if I am going to do this sport, then I need to learn as well. I have had my first compass lesson, and I think I could use it to find my direction. I have started reading the book and it is really interesting. But there is a lot to learn. Put it this way, I am glad that Ross will be there to do the actual map reading while I fumble along next to him. :o)

Kylie's Curiosities has evolved and developed over time, but is basically a place where I can write about the things I am curious about. The topics vary. Photos come and go. But it is always just Kylie...

Holidays: Day 1: A Relaxing Day At Home
My holidays have started with a lovely relaxing day. I got up early-ish - about 7.30. I didn't really feel like getting up so I grabbed a new book from my library stash. I paid a visit to the library yesterday and stocked up for the holidays. I plan on doing a lot of reading in the next fortnight. I grabbed a Laura Childs book.
Her books are pretty light on, but I have just read a couple of fairly heavy books so I need a break.
I spent the morning on the computer, just playing games and reading emails. While at the same time watching NCIS on DVD. And reading a chapter here and there. It was lovely.
I also went out and took some photos of our garden. While we did lose quite a lot of seeds in the storms several weeks ago, our snow peas and dwarf peas survived and are doing incredibly.
We also seem to have pumpkins coming up, which is interesting since we did not plant any. LOL We did put down compost that had pumpkin seeds in it (from pumpkins we had eaten) but that must have been enough. We were going to plant them anyway, so I guess this saved us the effort.
Last weekend Ross and his Mum also dug out a new patch ready for us to use. It needs some more preparation, but it is getting there.
Bit hard to see in the photo, but half the front yard will soon be filled with veggies.
I spent the first part of the afternoon doing some spring cleaning. This will no doubt be a theme of the next 2 weeks. We have quite a lot to go through. Plus we have to go to our storage shed and get our summer clothes out and store our heavier winter clothes. I ended up washing our summer quilt. Since I hadn't taken a pic of it before I figured that I might as well while it is hanging on the line.
I made this when I still lived in Qld, probably 9 or 10 years or so ago. It is one of my favourite quilts. One of the few I made that I am still in possession of, most have been given away.
So I spent the rest of the avo sewing hexagons. I have now done 24. I have 48 to go which means I am exactly 1/3 of the way through the flaowers. Considering I have only been working on it for 5 weeks, I am incredibly impressed with how many I have got through.
Overall, my holidays have started on a great note, and I am looking forward to the next 2 weeks.
To say good bye for the day, here is a pic of our youngest (and biggest) cat Starr.

Rogaining
We are going to give it a go. :o) The best description I have had so far is:
You are given a list of locations with a points value allocated to each and you have to plan a route where you get a minimum number of points. You can either go to the furthest ones which have the most points but take longest or go to closest ones with less points but have to get to more locations within your allocated time.
Generally you get an hour to plan before starting.
Sounds like a lot of fun. I contacted the Rogaining SA association and they have a 6 hour event in 2 weeks. You can register for your first event as a "Novice". It is a night event, which is fine as we love night hiking. We don't have to go for the full 3 hours, we can just go for 3 or 4 if we want to, it is entirely up to us. I'm going to have a chat to Ross when he gets home from work and see if he wants to do this in 2 weeks time. Otherwise, we will just wait until the 3 hour event.

Rogaining
So I am wondering.... Has anyone heard of Rogaining?
It looks really interesting, yet I am struggling to fully understand it as it says that you can do whatever distance and route you like but you need to go to certain checkpoints.
If anyone has any information or details on it I would love to hear about it.

Holidays
As of 5pm tonight, I am on 2 weeks holidays.
YIPPPPPEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obviously they will not be the holidays I planned as we are not doing Heyson (which has been tentatively rescheduled for the first week in May next year). So my new plan is to unwind and recharge.
I have a few plans for some odd days, but I am really just going to try and get my wind back. I have been feeling very lacklustre of late, and I need to just recharge. I have no idea if I am going to blog or not. I guess I will see where each day leads me.
I am looking forward to it. Lots of books. Lots of sewing. Lots of sleep ins.

Oh What A Life
I just thought I would share this little snippet of a day in the life of a cat in our house. This is Shiva, our oldest girl. She curled up on MIL's lap, and when it started getting chilly & the quilt came out, she got primo position. On a lap, under a quilt. Seriously, how much better could life get...
